The Return of DeLorean!

Postby Tuckerfan1053 » Fri Aug 03, 2007 1:09 am

DeLoreans to be built once more.
With 200 of the original 2.8-liter V-6 engines still in stock and facing a dwindling supply of cars suitable for rebuilding, Espey figures that within a year or so they'll start making the cars from scratch.

Their manufacturing plans are modest — maybe 20 or so cars a year. But it would be quite a comeback for a car that was given up for dead more than a quarter of a century ago.

And based on the reaction Botkin gets when he takes his "BTTF" DeLorean out for a spin, there's a market out there.
I think I'll pass.

That would explain why he had the original prototype on eBay a few months ago. I think it's kind of cool but with the Built-to-Order restorations he sells now for $30K, I can't imagine what he's going to want for the new cars.

Proto 1 was on Ebay because the owner of http://www.dmcflorida.com wants to expand his business, he was also the owner of the only factory produced Twin Turbo Prototype (VIN#502) that was made by Legend Industries for DMCL. VIN#502 if it made it into production it would have been the fastest production car back in 1981, yep it beat Ferrari's back in 1981.

The built to order restorations havent been around $30,000 for at least 2 or 3 years now.

Take a warehouse tour...... http://delorean.com/warehouse_tour.asp

http://www.delorean.com sells refurbished Delorean's starting at $42,500 http://delorean.com/dmcstore/byod.asp

There are now 2 Engine options available now, soon to be 3.

Stock 130HP, (Corvette in 1981 was 160HP and almost 1000lbs heavier.)

Stage II Cams, Headers, ported and polished heads 198HP

Stage III Supercharged and well over 200HP (They didnt release the numbers yet but we figure around 245HP)

You can read more here. http://dmctalk.com/showthread.php?t=6597

And yes I own a Delorean.

Here is our Delorean Car Show website, 2008 we will be in Pennsylvania and I think we invited the Bricklin club to join us.

So, are you also going to be inviting the Yugo club (since Bricklin was responsible for inflicting those on America)? ;)

Bricklin was not too famous after that Yugo mistake.

Bricklins are Gullwing's and are a rare breed like the Delorean, plus there are a few owners who own both Bricklin's and Delorean's.
